At 37 weeks pregnant, I am incredibly happy to share that I have submitted my PhD thesis.
The past years have been an intense, challenging and rewarding journey. Along the way, I had the privilege of teaching at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, working with a wonderful team and expanding my experience in the field of public science at the OeAD – Österreichs Agentur für Bildung und Internationalisierung. Most recently, a doctoral scholarship from the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung made it possible for me to continue my research from South Africa - an opportunity I am deeply grateful for.
My dissertation explores the artistic and cultural history of Prague from a female perspective. I examined the lives, work and networks of more than 300 women artists and cultural actors, as well as around 300 exhibitions between 1918 and 1938. The research focuses on women working in the fine and applied arts and on their roles as active participants in Prague's vibrant cultural life during the First Czechoslovak Republic.
It has been a long journey - through archives, databases, exhibitions, countless pages and many, many hours of writing. And now, finally, this book is finished.
I am immensely grateful to everyone who supported, challenged and accompanied me along the way - colleagues, friends, mentors and institutions who made this journey possible. 🙏
